Reasons To Keep Your Website Up To Date

There are many, many reasons to keep your website up to date – so here’s our top 4:

  • Outdated Design
    • As often as trends come around in music and fashion, it also does in web design! And like how you can tell an outfit came straight from the noughties, we can tell when a website is screaming 2005.

Aside from the fact that having an old website makes you look dated, the main issue with an outdated website comes into play when you look at the websites of your competitors and then put yourself into your customers shoes. If you had the choice, would you buy from an old website that looks like it hasn’t been updated in 5 years – or one where it looks like time and effort goes into the care of the website?

Unfortunately in an era where scamming is rife, the time and effort that you put into a website will really come across to your potential customers.

There’s being old school in a cool way, then there’s not being able to get with the times.

  • There's Dead Links
    • Like how you wouldn’t want to show clients an unfinished room in your office, you don’t want to be showing them unfinished pages with broken links. And unfortunately, if you’re not keeping your website up to date, it can easily happen.

It can happen in various different ways – maybe you’ve linked to a website that has since disappeared, or maybe you deleted an old page on your website you don’t need anymore but have forgotten about the sneaky link to it.

Either way, sloppy mistakes like this make a big impact on your clientele – so it’s best to avoid at all costs.

  • It's Complicated To Make Changes
    • If you have a website that was created a while ago, the likelihood is that it’s not going to be easy to make any content changes.

This may not seem like a big deal, however you’ll realise that it is when you need to change the pricing on your website ASAP and it’s after working hours!

  • It Poses A Security Risk
    • As you can imagine, the older your website is, the simpler it is to hack in to, and it’s as simple as that.

You also run into the issue of things starting to break on your website, as if you have plugins and they’re updating themselves, eventually you’re going to come to a time where the developers of the plugin no longer supports the old version of the website/PHP that you’re using, causing issues at the best and causing a critical error on your website at the worst.
