If you’re running a website, you’re probably wondering how users are interacting with your site. Are they clicking on the right buttons? Are they spending enough time on your pages? Are they converting into customers?

Thankfully, there are a variety of tools available to help answer these questions, and Google Analytics is one of the most popular.

Google Analytics is a free web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. It can provide insights into how users are finding and using your site, including which pages are most popular, how long users spend on each page, and what actions they take before leaving. It also provides data on where your visitors are coming from geographically and what devices they’re using to access your site. But Google Analytics isn’t the only tool out there. There are a number of other web analytics tools that can help you understand your website’s user behaviour.

Mixpanel: Mixpanel is a user analytics tool that focuses on tracking user behaviour in detail. It can tell you what actions users are taking on your site, what buttons they’re clicking, and what features they’re using. It also allows you to create funnels to track user behaviour through a specific sequence of steps.

Hotjar: Hotjar is a suite of user behaviour analysis and feedback tools. It can tell you what parts of your site users are clicking on, where they’re scrolling, and where they’re dropping off. It also offers heatmaps and user recordings so you can see how users are interacting with your site in real-time.

Crazy Egg: Crazy Egg is another tool that offers heatmaps and user recordings, as well as scroll maps that show how far down the page users are scrolling. It also offers A/B testing and user feedback tools.

Clicky: Clicky is a real-time web analytics tool that provides data on visitor behaviour, including time on site, bounce rate, and pages per visit. It also offers heatmaps, funnel analysis, and goal tracking.

 

So why use these tools in addition to Google Analytics? While Google Analytics provides a wealth of information, it’s not always easy to get a granular view of user behaviour. These other tools can provide additional insights into how users are interacting with your site, which can help you make more informed decisions about design, content, and functionality.

For example, if you notice that users are dropping off your site after visiting a certain page, you can use a tool like Hotjar or Crazy Egg to see exactly where they’re dropping off and why. Maybe the page is too long or the call-to-action isn’t clear. Armed with this information, you can make changes to improve the user experience and keep users on your site longer.

Similarly, if you notice that users are spending a lot of time on a particular page, you can use a tool like Mixpanel to see what actions they’re taking and what features they’re using. This can help you identify what’s working well on your site and what you can replicate on other pages.

Ultimately, the goal of using web analytics tools is to gain a better understanding of how users are interacting with your site. By tracking user behaviour, you can identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions about how to optimize your site for better engagement and conversions.
